This upcoming FootVolley World Cup event will be the first official event belonging to the International Federation of Volleyball. Dubai is proud to host the event, having gained the confidence of international officials due to the high level of international events and championships recently held in Dubai.

Footvolley was created in Brazil, by Octavio de Moraes, in 1965 in Rio de Janeiro’s Copacabana Beach. The game began as a beach training exercise for football players by juggling the ball over football goals. Today footvolley is among the world’s fastest growing sports and is played according to the same rules as beach volleyball but without using hands. The game attracts international football stars especially Brazilians like Romario, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho and many others. It gradually began to spread in the UAE and will feature two UAE teams competing in the World Cup, while Brazil will field four teams.

The World Cup is expected to have a total of 32 teams from 27 countries which are, along with UAE and Brazil: Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, Bolivia, Chile, USA, Canada, Spain, Germany, Italy, England, Czech Republic, Russia, Belgium, Estonia, France, Croatia, Portugal, Netherlands, Switzerland, Ukraine, Costa Rica, Singapore, and Thailand.

The UAE National Team has participated in a number of international championships, including recently in El Salvador and Brazil where the UAE team, the only representative of the Arab region, joined the 28 team field. The UAE team achieved outstanding results even while playing in the iron group of Spain, Argentina and the United States. Despite losing against Spain, the UAE achieved victory over Argentina and the USA, reaching the round of 16 teams before being eliminated by Brazil’s World Champion team!

    Schedule:
THURSDAY 9am-9pm – Opening rounds (FREE entry!)
    FRIDAY 4pm-9pm – Round 2
