With a number of big budget facilities springing up across the Gulf, MEA explores the latest trends in school design.

A seen in last month’s focus on the AED150m Al Bateen School, the Middle East is now hotbed for big budget education institutions penned by respected practices. In the UAE capital, this trend is driven by the Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) which plans to build a staggering 100 new facilities as part of its Future School programme.

Elsewhere in the region, Qatar is planning elaborate schemes such as Atkins’ Sherbourne Qatar School, as well as Doha College, which has shortlisted five top UK based firms including Broadway Malyan. Meanwhile Saudi Arabia, with its huge and growing population, has pledged to build a whopping 10,000 schools.
